Heater Hose Replacement

This was an easy one, but still a headache.

One of my heater hoses decided that it wanted to spring a leak on the highway. If you look in the first picture, you can see the bulge on the underside of the hose. I had coolant leaking from a 2 inch wide split, and the engine was overheating.

As a quick fix, I cut the hose about 3 inches and clamped it back into place. It was enough to get me back home. I was then able to head to AutoZone for a new hose ($3.99 + tax), and installed it in place of the modified hose. Why not just use the cut hose? The last time I left a modified hose in place, it only lasted a 50 miles before it gave out. Better safe than sorry, right?

Make sure you replace your hoses on a regular basis to prevent something like this from stranding you on the highway in 100+ degree heat! It's not fun pulling your distributor (with frozen bolts no less) in a parking lot just so you can get to a hose that's keeping your car from running...
