Why you don't use 86-89 Integra Axles in a ZC transmission

There's a lot of debate online about which axles to use in an 88-91 Civic/CRX with a JDM ZC transmission. I'm not 100% sure which axles work. Some people say 86-89 Integra axles, some say 90-93, some say that you have to make hybrid axles with the 90-93 inner cups/splines/bearings and the 86-89 Integra axles, or the 90-93 inner cups/splines/bearings and two passenger side stock axles.

I bought a set of 86-89 Integra axles to try out in my ZC transmission, based on a recommendation from a reliable source. The axles installed without any problems, but they seemed a little short. After driving about 50 feet and taking a turn, I heard a bunch of popping and grinding (I could feel it too), and the car stopped moving.

I pushed the car back into my garage and lifted it up... the passenger side axle had sheared off right at the inside tripod, and the driver's side inner boot was all twisted to hell. It was obvious that the axles were too short.

I now know (and you do too) that the 86-89 Integra axles are NOT the correct axles for the ZC transmission.
